Online Desk: A former soldier of Bangladesh Army and a RAB personnel were killed and five others, including four RAB men, injured in two separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Muksudpur and Kashiani upazilas of Gopalganj district on Sunday.
The accidents happened at around 11 am and 7 pm in Puratan Muksudpur and Shibgati areas of the upazila. The deceased were Md Zafar Sardar, 53, son of late Abdul Sardar, a former soldier of Bangladesh Army and Rabiul Momen, 24, a RAB official.
Quoting witnesses, Muksudpur Police Station officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Miah said Rabiul Momen along with five others were going to Khulna from Dhaka on a vehicle of the elite force. When they reached Puratan Muksudpur area around 7 pm, a speeding truck hit their vehicle from opposite direction, leaving five people, including four RAB officials, critically injured.
Being informed, firefighters rushed there and took them to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Rabiul Momen dead and referred three injured to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as their condition deterioted, he said.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Firoz, officer-in-charge of Kashiani Police Station, said two motorcycles collided head-on with each other at Shibagati area of the upazila, leaving two motorcyclists, including the former army man, critically injured. They were taken to a local hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Zafar Sardar dead.
