Dudhkumar flows above danger level in Kurigram

Online Desk: The water of the Dudhkumar river is flowing eight cm above the danger level at Pateshwari point in Kurigram district on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, the water level of 15 rivers in the district including Brahmaputra, Dharla, Teesta and Gangadhar has increased. The riverside people are spending their days with the fear of flood.

According to Water Development Board, the water of the river at Pateshwari point is flowing eight cm above the danger level. However, the water of other rivers is flowing below the danger level.  Among these, the water of the Brahmaputra river at Chilmari point is 72 cm, Dharla river is 55 cm and the water of the Teesta river is flowing 57 cm below the danger level at Kaunia point in the morning.

Saidul Islam, a resident of Palashbari village under Kurigram Sadar upazila, said ‘The water of the river has been increasing since Tuesday. Rising water will cause river erosion.’ Abdullah Al Mamun, executive engineer of the district water development board, said, ‘The water may increase till July 17. Due to this, there is a risk of moderate flood.’
