Online Desk: Voting for one union parishad general election and by-elections in three UPs in Gaibandha district are underway on Monday. The voting started at 8 am, and it will continue till 4 pm without any break.

By-elections are being held in Ballamjhar union under Sadar upazila, Talukkanupur and Nakai unions under Gobindganj upazila and General election is being held in Chandipur union parishad in Sundarganj upazila.

According to the district election office, 10 candidates including Awami League and Jatiya Party nominated candidates are contesting for chairman post, 16 candidates are contesting for reserved women member post, and 52 candidates are contesting for general member post in Chandipur union parishad elections of Sundarganj upazila.

The total number of voters in the union is 25,564. The union elections are being held 18 months after the scheduled date due to complications related to delimitation.

In Gobindganj upazila, due to the death of the chairman of Talukkanupur union, the by-election is being held for that post. A total of three candidates including Awami League candidate are contesting for the post of chairman. The total number of voters in the union is 30,595.

Meanwhile, seven candidates are contesting in the by-election for reserved women member post number three of Ballamjhar Union of Sadar Upazila. Total voters here are 14,54 people. Sundarganj upazila election officer and Chandipur union returning officer Sekander Ali said free and fair election is being held in the union. A Judicial Magistrate and three executive magistrates are on duty to conduct the election.
