Online Desk: A joint team of Customs Intelligence and National Security Intelligence recovered 26-kilograms of gold in paste form worth about Taka 30 crore from the inside of an aircraft at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Monday morning.

“Customs officials recovered egg size liquid gold paste wrapped with blue color scotch-tape after searching an Emirates flight (EK-584) landed here on Sunday night from Dubai”, said Segufta Mahjabin, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Custom House. Acting on a tip off, customs and other agency officials conducted a joint drive on Sunday midnight when the Emirates aircraft landed here from Dubai and recovered the gold kept under 11 separate seats of the aircraft, she said.

The gold paste was in 98 egg-shaped balls wrapped in scotch tape. The gold is worth around Tk 30 crore, said Md Imtiaz Hassan, joint commissioner of Dhaka Customs House.

None was detained as the gold was found abandoned, the customs official said. Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, customs officials detained three people in another drive and recovered three gold bars and some ornaments totaling 3.6kg from their possessions.
