Online Desk: Two people were hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Tangail’s Sakhipur upazila early today. Locals informed police after seeing their bodies lying on a road in Bagherbari area of the upazila. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Shahjalal, 35, son of Abul Hossain of Bagherbari village under Kakrajan union and Majnu Mia, 50, son of Nabu Miah of the same village.
Police and locals said Shahjalal was the owner of a grocery shop in the local Bagherbari market. He closed the shop around 10:30pm last night and left for home with his relative and neighbour Majnu, but they did not reach home. Later in the morning, locals found their hacked bodies. Shahjalal’s motorcycle was also lying near the spot.
Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station, told The Daily Star that they went to the spot after hearing the news. Both bodies bore wounds from sharp weapons, he added. “CID has already been informed for evidence collection,” the OC said, adding that after investigation, legal action will be taken.
The motive behind the murders is still unknown, Mohammad Shariful Islam, additional superintendent of police (crime) in Tangail said.
