Online Desk: The attack on Hero Alom is unacceptable and condemnable but it has not put the government in an uncomfortable situation, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said today. “The government has taken steps, so there is no question about falling into uncomfortable situation,” Quader told reporters after the British high commissioner in Dhaka met him at Setu Bhaban today.
Ruling party men allegedly beat Ashraful Alom, popularly known as Hero Alom, during the Dhaka-17 by-polls last week. The incident was condemned by the US and other countries, as well as by the UN. The issue was also raised at today’s meeting between Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, and the British high commissioner.
Asked whether the incident put the government in an uncomfortable situation, Quader denied it. The government has taken steps and arrested the accused and will bring to book whoever are involved in such incidents, irrespective of their political affiliation, Quader said.
Terming BNP’s demand for a polls-time caretaker government system irrational, he said no diplomat is supporting their demand.
