Online Desk: In the wake of intense discussions throughout the day over according permission to BNP to hold its rally in Dhaka, the party has subsequently deferred its programme by a day.
BNP will hold its grand rally at Nayapaltan in Dhaka at 2:00pm on Friday, said the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir after attending a meeting of the standing committee at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office in the city at 9:00pm on Wednesday.
“BNP is going to hold its grand rally as part of its struggle to restore democracy in the country. We hope neither the government nor any agency will hinder in holding this grand rally,” said Mirza Fakhrul in his written statement at the press coneference.
Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) accorded permission to BNP to hold its rally at Golapbagh ground, adjacent to Saidabad Bus Terminal on Thursday, instead of Nayapaltan, in the capital. However, BNP declined to hold its rally at Golapbagh ground.
The party leaders said they preferred either Suhrawardy Udyan or Nayapaltan as the venue of their rally and approached to the DMP accordingly. However, the DMP declined to accord permission to hold the rally at both the venues.
