Online Desk: A constable of India’s Railway Protection Force (RPF) today shot dead his colleague and three passengers on board a train near Palghar Railway Station, nearly 100km from Mumbai, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, an official said.
The RPF jawan, identified as Chetan Kumar Choudhary, fired from his automatic weapon in the Jaipur-Mumbai express train which was on way to Mumbai, reports our New Delhi correspondent quoting Sumit Thakur, chief PRO of the Western Railway.
Chetan first opened fire on his escort duty in-charge Assistant Sub Inspector Tika Ram Meena in the running train and then went to another compartment and gunned down three passengers, the official added. Chetan was apprehended by Maharashtra state police at Mira Road with the help of Government Railway Police and RPF officials.
Sumit Thakur said the reason behind the incident was not known yet. According to a senior Maharashtra police official, Chetan was of “unstable mind.”
