Online Desk: Train movement on the Dhaka-Narayanganj route started after eight months on Tuesday morning.
Earlier, train movement on the route was temporarily stopped from fourth December last year due to the work of Padma Rail Link Project. At first it was said for a few months but it was delayed up to eight months. Siraj Ud-Daula Khan, senior information officer of the Ministry of Railway, confirmed the news.
On July 25, Md Nurul Islam Sujon, Minister of Railways, visited Dhaka-Narayanganj dual gauge double rail line and Padma bridge rail connection project and said that train movement will start on Dhaka-Narayanganj route from August 1.
According to sources, most people of Narayanganj city travel to Dhaka by rail and road. As Narayanganj is an industrial area and a district close to Dhaka, many people from Narayanganj go to Dhaka and many people from Dhaka also go to work in Narayanganj regularly. At the same time, being a rich commercial area, people travel to Dhaka for various reasons. As a result, both railways and roads are under pressure from the general public.
In order to reduce the pressure of passengers, nine pairs of trains used to move on Dhaka-Narayanganj route every day. Altogether 18 trains were running on Dhaka-Narayanganj route. As such, more than 10,000 people used to travel from Dhaka to Narayanganj on average every day.
