Online Desk: Young Towhid Hridoy had another splendid day with the bat as his unbeaten cameo helped Jaffna Kings register a thumping eight-wicket win over Galle Titans, featuring Shakib Al Hasan, in the ongoing Lanka Premier League in Pallekele on Friday.
Hridoy outwitted the wily Shakib on way to his blistering 23-ball 44 that helped Jaffna Kings chase down Galle Titans’ 118-run target with 44 balls to spare. After Shakib had removed Charith Asalanka in the third over, Hridoy came down and charged his national team’s Test and T20I skipper by skipping down the ground. Hridoy only managed a single in that delivery.
However, the next time Hridoy faced Shakib, he smashed the left-arm spinner for a six and a boundary in consecutive deliveries. Shakib had induced the edge off the bat of Hridoy once but that too went through for a four as luck sided by the young right-handed batter.
Hriody smashed a total of four maximums and two boundaries and starred in an 83-run second-wicket stand with Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Gurbaz scored 54 off 39 deliveries. Shakib scalped the wicket of Gurbaz in the 12th over but Hridoy saw Jaffna Kings home with two successive sixes in the very next over.
With the bat in hand, Shakib could only score six off nine deliveries before finishing with figures of two for 31 in four overs with the bowl in hand.
