Online Desk: Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, an associate body of the ruling party, has submitted a four-point memorandum to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and the Election Commission demanding a ban on BNP-Jamaat politics. Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and General Secretary Md Mainul Hossain Khan handed over the memorandum to the home minister at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon. Regarding the matter, home minister told reporters that action would be taken as per law, reports UNB.

Apart from demanding a ban BNP-Jamaat politics, the points include posthumous trial of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, extradition of the convicted Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman to the country, and implementation of the punishment for self-confessed fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by bringing them back.

The Jubo League chairman said: “It is clear to the public that Ziaur Rahman was the mastermind of the 1975 assassinations as they were the beneficiaries. They are the ones who formed the party by raising the gun.” “The atrocities committed by this organization on the people of Bangladesh after 1975, the way they have committed terrorism, torture, murder and violence following the pattern of 1971, we morally think that BNP-Jamaat have no right to do politics in this country,” he added.

Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash further said, “Secondly, we want a posthumous trial for Ziaur Rahman. This is the hope of today’s youth and all those who are struggling to ensure a progressive, secular, developed Bangladesh. Without this, Bangladesh will not be free of stigma. Therefore, we believe that the posthumous trial of Ziaur Rahman is the need of the hour and a just demand. We are here today to present this demand.”

He also urged the concerned ministry to bring back Tarique Rahman and implement the court’s verdict for his role in the August 21 grenade attack on Sheikh Hasina. “He is involved in nefarious activities from abroad, he is involved in terrorism. Yesterday, one of our Jubo League leaders was killed. They came to power in 2001 and killed thousands of our leaders and workers. About 25,000 activists were killed. We demand that the registrations of BNP-Jamaat be canceled,” the Jubo League chairman said.

After receiving the memorandum, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said, “We have received their memorandum. We will take whatever measures are required by the home ministry as per the law. We are aware of all the facts. Tarique Rahman and his wife have already been convicted by the court. We will do everything to bring them back.”

Another Jubo League delegation led by its General Secretary Mainul Hossain submitted the memorandum to EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam around 2:30 pm on Thursday. Meanwhile, a copy of the memorandum – signed by Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and General Secretary Mainul Hossain – was sent to the foreign ministry.
