Online Desk: A youth has been arrested from Khulna after investigating a general diary (GD) registered by the US Embassy in Dhaka. On August 21 last, members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him from his residence in Khulna city.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of the CTTC Md Saiful Islam, who is also the investigation officer of the GD, disclosed it to media on Sunday. He said Md Samir, 20, is a second year student of the Department of Computer Science of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET). He hails from New Market area under Sonadanga Police Station.

Following the arrest, Samir was taken on a two-day remand at the directive of court. After questioning him on remand, he was sent to jail at the directive of court on Saturday. CTTC official Md Saiful Islam said more than 150 naked photos of minimum 30 girls of three countries including the United States, were seized from his cellphone and laptop. Samir had developed relationship with the girls on social medium app ‘Discord’ online. Then he collected their naked photos putting them on traps.

Md Saiful Islam said the US Embassy’s regional officer Micheal Lee filed the GD at Gulshan Police Station on July 26 last. In his GD, he alleged that a Bangladeshi citizen named Samir took the porno photos of a 13-year-old girl alluring her. The girl lives with her parents in California of the United States. Samir contacted with the American girl using the ‘Discord’ app and subsequently developed relationship with her. Then he asked the girl to send the porno photos on his email. Later, the mother of the girl submitted a prayer to the US Homeland Security Department. In the context of the appeal, Micheal Lee filed a GD at Gulshan Police Station. Subsequently, the DMP Commissioner directed the CTTC to investigate the GD.

CTTC’s additional deputy commissioner Saiful Islam said they found details of Samir after luanching an investigation. Then on August 21, the US Embassy’s Lee filed a case against Samir at Gulshan Police Station under Pornography Control Act 2012. He was shown arrested in the case.
