Fugitive top Hizb ut-Tahrir leader Abdul Baten arrested in city

Online Desk: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday night arrested a top leader of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from the capital’s Mohammadpur area. The arrested leader is Md Abdul Baten, 60. He is an warrented accused and absconding for the last five years.

Abdul Baten, an active member of invitation and finance department of gang, has been inspiring the youths and publicising anti-state books across the country, including Dhaka. He was in regular contact with the ameer of the Bangladesh branch of Hizb ut Tahrir and used to distribute anti-state and anti-government leaflets and invite people to various mosques.

RAB-2 assistant director ASP Shihab Karim disclosed the arrest news and the information on Monday morning. He said, arrested Baten went into hiding for the last five years. But continued his activities avoiding the attention of the law enforcement agencies. He is accused in number of cases. A team of RAB-2 continued intelligence surveillance to arrest Abdul Baten.

A special team of RAB-2 conducted a raid in Mohammadpur area in the capital on Sunday night based on secret information and arrested Baten.
