Police headquarters issued a new posting order for Additional deputy commissioner (Ramna Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Harun Ar Rashid, to Armed Police Battalion (APBn) from the DMP on Sunday.
The new posting order was given several hours after the DMP had issued a transfer order of ADC Harun from Ramna crime division to Public Order Management (POM) division of the DMP for allegedly beating up two BCL men inside Shahbag police station on Saturday night. “Harun Ar Rashid has been transferred to POM division from Ramna division of the DMP for the public interest till next order,” the transfer order of DMP, issued by DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruk, says.
However, the new posting order of police headquarters mentioned that ADC Harun must hand over his present charge to join his new work place APBn by September 12. Otherwise, he will be termed as an instant stand release from September 13, according to the transfer order, signed by IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. The two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, are known as Anwar HossenNayem, Organising secretary; and Sharif Ahmed Munim, secretary of Science affairs. Both are the leaders of BCL central committee.
Talking to the witnesses of the incident, it was learned that ADC Harun and the two BCL leaders with some activists were locked in an altercation over a matter at Birdem Hospital at Shahbagh on Saturday evening. However, ADC Harun managed to escape from there. After a while he appeared at the incident place with police forces and took Nayeem and Sharif to the Shahbagh Police station and beat them roughly. Following this incident, no official complaint was filed from any side.
But talking to the respective people and BCL leaders, it has been learnt that ADC Harun was chatting with a woman police officer of 33rd BCS at Bardem Hospital. The woman official’s husband came to know about this and went there with Naeem and Munim. The woman officer’s husband is also an administration cadre officer and former leader of Chhatra League and all of them are from Gazipur. When they arrived at Birdem Hospital, they locked in an altercation with ADC Harun around 9 pm.
Later, Harun went to Shahbag police station and returned with police force and took Sharif and Nayeem to the police station and tortured them in an inhumane manner. Around 1:00 am at night, they were set free from the police station and taken to the hospital for treatment. After Harun took them to thana, BCL Leaders and activists from Dhaka University went there but couldn’t do anything as the main gate of thana was locked from inside. The alleged victims and top BCL leaders did not make any official comment following this issue as there is no official complaint till now.
