Online Desk: The government is set to suspend Harun-or-Rashid, the former additional deputy commissioner of Ramna Division who allegedly assaulted two central Chhatra League leaders inside the Shahbagh Police Station on Saturday night.

A three-member committee was formed on Monday afternoon to look into the allegation of torture on two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders by additional deputy commissioner (Ramna Zone) of DMP Harun Ar Rashid at Shahbagh police station. The committee was also asked to submit its report within two working days.

The probe committee was formed led by Deputy Commissioner (DC-operations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said a media release signed by DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruk. The central committee’s Organising Secretary Anwar Hossen Nayem and Science Affairs Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim and some other fellows locked into an altercation with ADC Harun over a matter at Birdem Hospital at Shahbagh on Saturday evening. He was later transferred to Armed Police Battalion (APBn).

On Saturday, ADC Harun and other police members took two BCL leaders to Shahbagh Police Station around 9:00pm where police tortured them for about an hour, BCL leaders alleged.

The injured BCL leaders are: Central Organising Secretary and Dhaka University’s (DU’s) Fazlul Haque Hall unit President Anwar Hossain Naeem, and Central Science Affairs Secretary and Shahidullah Hall unit General Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim. The injured BCL leaders are still receiving treatment at a city hospital.
