Online Desk: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam has lambasted registrar general office for poor show of performance of birth and death registration server.
He said, “Frankly speaking, I have to say the registrar general office cannot execute the job of birth and death registration properly. The responsibility of this failure goes to me, my officials and councilors. My councilors and I know how much complaints regarding the service have been filed every day. In most cases, service seekers say the server of the registrar office is down and not working.”
Atiqul said, “You have no capacity. You should agree that you have many problems. You say everything is okay. An adviser to prime minister also complains about it.” He came up with the statements while addressing the programme to celebrate Birth and Death Registration Day -2023. He also said, “It is told that service is down, if not down then it is slow. It may be that we have overrun the server capacity. I am not feeling well to say this in the public meeting but it is the truth.” In his speech, he suggested enhancing manpower in the registrar general office and honing the expertise of existing manpower.
Atiqul Islam said, “Why we will not act promptly when the image of the government depends on it. The service was decentralized from zone to wards but we could not serve properly. One of our councilor from Mohammadpur has shown me that he could not enter the server after providing password.” “Failing to get the service, people are vilifying me. It has become unbearable for me. Neither the city corporation nor the government can bear it anymore,” he added. He informed that DNCC has spent Tk 1.35 crore to provide the service. When it will be transferred to wards, it has to spend Tk 6-7 crore.
