Online Desk: A court in Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced Sonali Bank principal officer Md Naimul Islam to jail for 17 years under two separate sections on charge of money embezzlement.
Besides, three other accused in the case were also jailed for five years each.

Judge Iqbal Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-5 pronounced the judgement in presence of the three covicts.
Other three accused are the bank accountant Rafiqul Islam, Md Al Amin and Lipy Begum.
Naimul Islam was fined Tk 81,000 and 50,000 under two separate sections. In default, he has to suffer six months more in jail.
During the judgement, Naimul, Rafiqul and Al Amin were present in the court and they were sent to jail.

As another accused Lipy was not present in the court, an arrest warrant has been issued against her.

According to the case statement, the accused fraudulently embezzled Tk more than 1 crore by transferring to four accounts on different dates from December 26, 2017, to June 21, 2018, instead of depositing it to the specific account.

Later on June 23, 2018, another Sonali Bank officer Md Moniruzzaman filed the case with Motijheel Police Station.

After investigation, the Anti-Corruption Commission deputy assistant director Md Abul Kalam Azad submitted the chargehseet of the case on February 19, 2020.
