Online Desk: US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas has wanted know from the government whether it will shut down all the roads for entering Dhaka over the BNP’s grand rally scheduled to be held  on October 28 in the capital.

The Ambassador wanted to know it from Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal after meeting him at his secretariat office in the capital on Sunday (October 22).

The Home Minister said he (Peter Haas) wanted to know that since the main opposition BNP announced to hold a grand rally in Dhaka and many people would join it, has the government any plan to close the roads or is it going to do anything else.

“We told him [Ambassador Haas] that we have no such plans. We believe that they [BNP] will observe their political agenda peacefully. If they observe their programme peacefully, we have nothing to say,” he said.”In spite of it, we will tell them that the Dhaka city is a city of traffic congestion. More than 20 million people live here. Even, the roads and lanes of Dhaka city always remain filled with people. In such a situation, if 1 million people or more than it enter the Dhaka city, it will lead to a mitch-match… chaotic communications….etc. We, on behalf of the home ministry, would request them not to shut down the roads and keep scopes of free movement of common people,” he said.

The Home Minister said the law enforcers would remain careful so that the capital does not come to a standstill, or there would not be any kind of violence.
