Online Desk: Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Sunday said that strict action is being taken against those involved in subversive and violent crimes like vandalism and arson.
The IGP said this while addressing a meeting on safe movement of goods and passenger vehicles at the Hall of Pride of Police Headquarters.
He urged the transport owners and workers’ leaders to arrive at some form of arrangement with the owners, workers and passengers to maintain a comfortable environment in the country and to keep the movement of vehicles normal.
He said that vehicles’ security will be provided on the highway during the blockade.
The police chief urged transport workers and drivers to call the National Emergency Service 999 for assistance if needed.

Shahabuddin Khan, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman, DIG of Dhaka Range Syed Nurul Islam, President of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation and Awami League Presidium Member Shajahan Khan, Opposition Chief Whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Chairman of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association Ramesh Chandra Ghosh and Secretary General Abu Raihan, among others, were present on the occasion.
Shahjahan Khan said that the transport owners, workers, passengers and the public should come forward unitedly to keep the transport movement active against terrorism and sabotage, ignoring fear and intimidation.
He urged the police and RAB to increase patrolling on the roads and increase intelligence surveillance.
He said strict legal action should be taken against those found involved in sabotage and their trial should be completed expeditiously.
