The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk: A Dhaka court today asked Detective Branch (DB) of police to submit by February 27 the report of the probe into the murders of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afran Jamal Prity in Dhaka on March 24 last year. Investigators have now taken nine dates to complete the investigation into the murder.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order after Md Yasin Sikder, a DB inspector and also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit any report today. On March 24 last year, Tipu, 55, former general secretary of AL’s Motijheel unit, was returning home in his microbus from his restaurant in Motijheel AGB Colony area. The vehicle was at a traffic light in Shahjahanpur when attackers arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and opened fire indiscriminately.
A college student, Samia Afran Jamal Prity, 22, who happened to be in a rickshaw next to the vehicle, was also shot. The two were declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police have so far arrested 25 in connection with the killings. Of them, four arrestees including Sumon Shikder alias Musa, a key accused, and Masum Mohammad Akash had earlier confessed to the killings.
