Online Desk: Leader of the opposition in parliament and Jatiya Party’s Chief Patron Raushan Ershad on Sunday sought the full cooperation from President Mohammed Sahabuddin in conducting the upcoming 12th parliamentary election in a fair, free, impartial, and peaceful manner.
She sought the president’s cooperation during a courtesy meeting with him at Bangabhaban.
President’s Press Secretary Md Zainal Abedin said Raushan Ershad said that their party is ready for national election.
“Jatiya Party is an election-oriented party… We have already prepared to participate in the elections,” said Raushan.
“We respect the constitution. So we welcome the schedule announced by the Election Commission,” she added.
However, she also said that the last date of submitting paper could be extended as political parties need more time to prepare for the elections.
The last day for filing nominations and income tax returns is November 30.
President Md. Sahabuddin said that there is no alternative to elections to continue the democratic process in the country.
“If the constitution is to be kept intact, elections must be held within the stipulated time. The government will ensure all necessary cooperation with the Election Commission to make the upcoming national election fair, free, and peaceful,” said the president.
