Online Desk: The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) census shows that there are more women than men in Bangladesh.
The BBS published its final report of the Population and Household Census project on Tuesday. The final census report has been published in the shortest time in the country’s history.
According to the report, the total population of the country is 169.8 million (16 crores 98 lakh 28 thousand 911) people. Among them, the number of women has outnumbered the men.
The information was revealed at a press conference held at the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference Room in Dhaka city on Tuesday.
According to the BBS’s data, the country’s population is 169.8 million. Of which, 84.13 million (8 crores 41 lakh 34 thousand 203) are men and 85.68 million (8 crores 56 lakh 86 thousand 784) are women.
The floating population in the country is 22,185 people, said the report adding that the population density has increased from 976 people per square kilometre to 1,119.
Around 116 million of the country’s total population lives in villages and 53.70 million people live in the city, said the report.
It is also said that in 2011, 976 people live per square kilometre, but in 2022, 1,119 people live per square kilometre.
Planning Minister MA Mannan was present at the event as the chief guest while Shahnaz Arefin, secretary of the statistics and information management division, joined the function as a special guest.
