Online Desk: Low back pain affects 1 in 13 people making it the leading cause of disability globally, said the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday.

In 2020, approximately 1 in 13 people, equating to 619 million people, experienced low back pain, a 60 per cent increase from 1990, the UN health organisation said.

The cases of low back pain are expected to rise to an estimated 843 million by 2050, with the greatest growth anticipated in Africa and Asia, where populations are getting larger and people are living longer, it added.

New guidelines outline the best way to manage chronic low back pain in adults, including older people, according to the evidence, said WHO.
