Online Desk: The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has lifted the limit on unused mobile data to be carried forward to the next purchase of the same pack.

Previously, if a data pack expired, mobile subscribers could carry forward up to 50 GB of unutilised data to their next purchase of the same pack.

According to the revised Guidelines for Mobile Phone Operators’ Data and Data Packages-2023, unused data will now be preserved and automatically added to next renewal of the same package, irrespective of the volume.

When asked, a top executive of a mobile operator confirmed that his company has already implemented this decision in accordance with BTRC instructions.

According to the new amendment to the guidelines, when the customer’s data package expires, the unused data will be carried forward with the bonus if the customer buys the same data package — even if it is for a different period — before the expiration of the previous package.

In March last year, the telecom regulator implemented the regulation for carrying forward unused data of up to 50 GB.
