Online Desk: The High Court on Tuesday asked the authorities concerned to remove markets, illegal establishments and unauthorised vehicles from Dhaka-Gazipur-Mymensingh Highway and submit a progress report within three months.

The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah passed the order after hearing a writ petition.

The court also issued a rule asking the government to explain why the ineffectiveness of the authorities concerned to ensure safe movement of citizens after removing markets, illegal establishments and unauthorised vehicles from the highways across the country, should not be declared illegal.

Secretary of the Road Transport Ministry, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Chief of Highway Police have been made respondent to the rule which is returnable in four weeks.

Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy represented the state. Advocate SM Badrul filed the writ petition.
