Online Desk: A 40-day Cottage Industry Fair-2024 (Kutir Shilpa Mela) began at Abdul Hakim outer stadium in the town yesterday with the call for bolstering economic scenario here through revival of cottage goods.
Jamalpur Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate Muhammad Baki Billah inaugurated the fair which was organised by District Spots Association (DSA).
On the inaugural session, a discussion was held at the fair premises with Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Moktar Hossain in the chair.
Local Lawmaker Md Abul Kalam Azad addressed the meeting as the chief guest.
A spectrum of locally produced handloom and cottage industrial goods including leather products, jute-made products, processed agricultural products, electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other products are being displayed in the fair.
Abul Kalam Azad said there is a need for a holistic approach towards revival of the handloom and cottage industries. Ensuring a business-friendly atmosphere is very important to encourage local entrepreneurs side by side revitalizing the sector, he added.
“People will enjoy healthy recreation through the fair by the side of spreading commodities of locally-made products,” the chief guest said, adding that time-fitting measures should be taken to revive the country’s industrial sector including the cottage industries as these play a vital role in the economic development.
He directed the law enforcers to maintain law and order situation during the fair.
Secretary of District Awami League (AL) Bizan Kumar Chanda, its vice- president Mirza Sakhawatul Alam Moni, Joint-secretary Saleh Safik Genda, Mayor of Jamalpur Municipality Md Sanowar Hossain, Assistant Superintendent of Police Avijit Das and General Secretary of DSA Mirza Zillur Rahman Shipon spoke, among others, in the meeting.
A total of 60 various stalls and different recreation rides for kids were set up in the fair.
