The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk: Suspended Gazipur mayor Jahangir Alam has been pardoned by Awami League on the condition that he will not engage in any anti-organizational activities and break discipline in the future. A letter, signed by Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday evening, confirmed the matter. Jahangir Alam received the letter on Saturday night. He lost his Awami League post for controversial remarks on Bangabandhu and martyrs of Liberation War.
On November 19, 2021, the ruling Awami League expelled Jahangir Alam from his position in the party after videos of Alam making derogatory comments on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyred freedom fighters of the Liberation War at a program went viral on social media. A few days later, he was suspended as the Gazipur City Corporation mayor by the local government ministry over various allegations.
