Online Desk:  Nari Maitree, a renowned voluntary organization dedicated to women’s empowerment and social welfare, convened the prestigious Anti-Tobacco Youth Conference 2024 at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

This event witnessed the participation of over 200 enthusiastic youths who pledged to build a tobacco-free Bangladesh.

With the esteemed support of Nari Maitree, the conference sought to mobilize youth to combat the widespread impact of tobacco and smoking on Bangladeshi society.

Popular actor and Member of Parliament from Dhaka-10 Ferdous Ahmed delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging young individuals to spearhead efforts towards a healthier nation.

Ferdous Ahmed, addressing the conference as the chief guest, underscored the pivotal role of youth in shaping the nation’s future. He echoed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s vision for a smarter Bangladesh, emphasizing the imperative for young people to abstain from smoking and tobacco consumption.

Shaheen Akter Dolly, the Executive Director of Nari Maitree, emphasized the organization’s commitment to empowering young leaders to initiate positive change. She highlighted Nari Maitree’s pivotal role in spearheading initiatives that promote public health and well-being, focusing on youth engagement in tobacco control efforts.

Imran Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, illuminated the alarming strategies employed by tobacco companies to attract young people and children.

He underscored the vital necessity for strict enforcement of tobacco control laws to effectively mitigate the rise of emerging tobacco products among the youth population.
