The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk: Since the release of “Pathaan” on January 25, there has been a debate ongoing regarding to whether Bangladesh should import the movie or not. While some people have been in favour of the film being released, others have suggested that importing Bollywood films will have a detrimental impact on the local film industry. However, after the marvellous success of “Pathaan”, even more fans in Bangladesh have come forward to demand the release of the film.
Amongst those in favour of “Pathaan” being imported to Bangladesh is Obaidul Quader, MP, Honourable Minister of Road Transport and Bridges. On January 26, the minister expressed his opinion on this matter to the media. Reminiscing how much he loved Bangla films, Obaidul Quader mentioned that as a film lover, he used to love watching the legendary Uttam Kumar and Suchitra’s films. He witnessed the amazing works of Babita, Razzak, and Shabana, among others. However, many people do not know these legends today.
He shared that screening “Pathaan” in local cinema halls would be a good thing and that such trade would further enrich the country. A decision was supposed to be made regarding the release of “Pathaan” in Bangladesh on January 24. However, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting could not come to a decision in that meeting. At the time, they informed The Daily Star that they had to send a letter to the Ministry of Commerce, as there are some issues regarding movie import and the SAFTA agreement.
