BMCCI for strengthening ties with Malaysia

Online Desk: Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BMCCI) laid emphasis on strengthening ties with Malaysia through government, private sector and chamber of commerce collaborations.

The chamber made the observation while visiting a business delegation under the leadership of Shabbir A Khan, BMCCI President, from February 20th to 22nd 2024, said a press release today.

The other members of the delegation are the Vice President of BMCCI Mahbubul Alam, Secretary General, Motaher Hoshan Khan, Joint Secretary General, Rubaiyat Ahsan, Director, Mahbub Alam Shah and Former President of BMCCI Syed Moazzam Hossain.

The First Secretary (Commercial) of the Bangladesh High Commission Pranab Kumar Ghosh also accompanied the delegation during their meetings.

BMCCI delegation had dialogues with prominent figures, including the Chief Executive Officers and Senior Officials of Malaysian counterparts such as Malaysia Digital Economic Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) Secretariat, Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), Tourism Malaysia, SME Corporation Malaysia, and Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA). These engagements served to accelerate and enhance the bilateral trade & investment between Bangladesh and Malaysia, fostering stronger economic ties and facilitating the exchange of commercial opportunities between the two nations.

Md Shameem Ahsan, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, was kind enough to have an audience of the BMCCI delegation, commending their proactive approach to elevating Bangladesh’s business relations to unprecedented levels.

BMCCI met MDEC to approach for joining Bangladesh in the road to achieve SMART Bangladesh with their expertise and proven knowledge.

The BMCCI delegation further discussed helping Bangladesh for skill development to take part in the growing semiconductor industries in Malaysia and around while there is a shortage of skill engineers to work on such industries and Bangladesh can take opportunity by preparing skill engineers to export.

MDEC accepted both the proposals to consider actively and soon, a high level delegation will pay a visit to Bangladesh with definite intention and proposal to evaluate the possibility of joining the road to SMART Bangladesh.

The very congenial discussion with MATRADE led by the CEO and other high officials was very comprehensive and productive in reducing the trade gap between the two Muslim nations.

The meeting between BMCCI and EMGS was meaningful, addressing challenges faced by Bangladeshi students in Malaysia. EMGS plans to establish an office in Bangladesh to support students directly, aiming to improve their experience. Collaboration includes data sharing to enhance support for students, ensuring access to accurate information for academic success.

The BMCCI delegation discussed enhancing tourism cooperation with Tourism Malaysia through formal agreements. Proposed initiatives include joint events, a dedicated help desk at BMCCI, and collaborations to promote Malaysian tourism in Bangladesh. Emphasis on strengthening ties through government, private sector, and Chamber of Commerce collaborations.

Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board supports cultural exchanges by sending a cultural troupe and Chef for the Malaysian National Day celebration in Bangladesh.

The delegation also aims to establish connections between the people of these two friendly nations through the exchange of cultural groups, fostering deeper cultural understanding and cooperation.
