Online Desk: At least 35 people, including women and children, sustained burn injuries after a gas cylinder exploded in Gazipur’s Kaliakair on Wednesday.

Some of the injured were identified as Soleman (7), Sadia (18), Sufia (9), Meraj (13), Tarek (18), Ariful Islam (40), Mashiur (22), Mannaf (17), Sumon (25), Yashin (21). , Shilpi (30), Saidul Islam (30), and Golam Rabbi (11).

They were treated at several wards at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery with burn injuries, said Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen.

He said that the condition of 10 people is critical. They suffered  90 to 100 percent burns. Five people, including children, have been kept in the ICU and four in the High Defense Unit (HDU), Dr Sen added.

Locals said a fire broke out in a cooking gas cylinder at a house in Telir Chala area of Mouchak in Kaliakair Upazila of the district around 6:00 pm. When the residents of the house threw it out on the road, the explosion occurred.

They were first taken to nearby hospitals. Later, they were shifted to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
