The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk: Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity has called for a 50 percent reduction in the metro rail’s minimum and per kilometre fare. The association claimed it is unreasonable to set the fare at double of what the Dhaka bus charges, without considering any passenger feedback or observation.
At a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital’s Shegunbagicha this morning, Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, secretary general of the association, raised this demand. “Considering the socio-economic situation, per capita income, and average GDP of Dhaka and Kolkata of India, which is equal in almost all indicators, the fare per kilometre in Dhaka metro rail is twice as high, and the minimum fare is four times higher than that of Kolkata. It will severely harm the interest of passengers,” he said. As a result, it will be harder to reach the goal of passenger transportation in the metro rail, he added.
