Online Desk: Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said fear about election has engulfed BNP and the party is getting smaller with continuous election boycott.
“It has become a rule now that you cannot take part in elections if you do BNP’s politics. My question to BNP leaders is how long they will do BNP’s politics which does not allow them to take part in any election. That appears to be a big question,” he told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Referring to BNP’s boycott of upazila, union parishad and parliament elections, the joint general secretary of Awam I League said it is a suicidal path that BNP has been following.
Because, he added, the party cannot be a party of mass people if it continuously maintains distance from the elections.
Responding to a question, the foreign minister said BNP is distributing leaflets in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar and other parts of the city just to draw media attention.
He said it cannot be said when they will start distributing leaflets to the embassies in Bangladesh.
The foreign minister briefed the reporters on his recent visit to multiple countries and his engagements there over the last 13 days.
Director General (Myanmar wing) Miah Md Mainul Kabir and MoFA spokesperson Seheli Sabrin, among others, were present.
