Online Desk : Bangladesh Press Council organised an exchange views meeting with Dhaka Sub-Editors Council’s professional journalists. They discussed various aspects of improving the quality of journalism with the newly elected leaders of the organisation. A seminar and exchange meeting was organised at the Bangladesh Press Council Auditorium at Topkhana in the capital on May 28. Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim has said that a minimum educational qualification of either graduation or five years of professional experience would be required for professional journalism. Addressing the seminar as a special guest, Secretary of the organisation Shyamal Chandra Karmakar highlighted journalism as a noble profession suitable for educated and experienced individuals. However, he lamented the corruption within the field, noting that becoming a journalist now merely requires obtaining cards and equipment, thereby diminishing the profession’s integrity.
President of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council Muktadir Anik presided over the programme and General Secretary Zauhar Iqbal Khan gave a welcome speech. Bangladesh Alo publisher and editor Mofizur Rahman Khan Babu, DSEC former president Ashraful Islam , Zakir Hossain Imon, senior member Mosharraf Hossain and Women’s Affairs Secretary Farhana Naznin Flora spoke on the occasion. Superintendent of Press Council Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain moderated the programme. The seminar and exchange meeting on ‘Role of Media in Establishing Good Governance’ organised by Bangladesh Press Council was attended by DSEC Vice President Ali Imam Sumon, Joint Secretary Monir Ahmad Zarif, Treasurer Nazim Ud-Daula Sadi, Organizing Secretary Shahid Rana, Office Secretary Zafarul Alam, Publicity, Publication Secretary, Arif Ahmed, all the executive members were also present at the seminar.
