Sylhet flood : Army working continuously, holidays of all cancelled

Online Desk : Members of Bangladesh Army are continuous working to ensure food and other assistance to the flood-affected people in Sylhet. In a notification on Thursday (June 20), the army said that shelter centres have been opened in the training barracks, dining room and hall room of Sunamganj district commandant office, where 510 people have taken shelter. Local administration the army are providing all necessary services to them under their own management. Ansar-VDP members are performing security duties in 60 shelter centres in coordination with the local administration of Sunamganj district.

Meanwhile, 550 families in different shelters of Jaintipur, Companyganj, Gowainghat and Sadar upazilas are being given food as these are the most affected areas. The holidays of all top-level army officials and employee have been cancelled as per the direction of the authorities. Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days have left Sylhet district flooded as well, with more than eight lakh people stranded.

According to the information from meteorological organisations, medium to heavy rainfall is expected over the northern and adjoining upstream region, and heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the northeastern, northern and adjoining upstream parts of the country in  24 to 48 hours.
