Businessmen want govt policy support to ensure safe food

Businessmen and entrepreneurs of food sector want government’s policy support in ensuring safe food and implementing the compliance of the restaurant industry.

Besides, they called for government-private joint initiatives to reduce the complexity of business management, correct the errors of restaurants and create skilled manpower for this sector.

The business leaders made the call at the meeting of the standing committee on food and food safety at FBCCI’s Motijheel office on Wednesday.

Chairman of the committee and Secretary General of Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association Imran Hasan presided over the meeting.

Khandkar Ruhul Amin, director of FBCCI, served as the director-in-charge of the committee.

FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam participated virtually as the chief guest in the meeting.

He said there is no alternative to ensuring nutritious and safe food for all. Ensuring safe food in a country with a huge population like Bangladesh is difficult, yet we need to implement compliance.

The FBCCI President laid special emphasis on building skilled and trained workforce for the restaurant industry to ensure restaurant environment, safety and food quality.

He said that skilled manpower should not be created and sent abroad only. Sector-wise skilled manpower should be developed for our own country as well. At this time, Mahbubul Alam assured that the cooperation of FBCCI will continue to ensure safe food and remove the membership of restaurant traders.

FBCCI Senior Vice President Md Amin Helali advised the entrepreneurs and stakeholders of this sector to adopt short, medium and long term plans to identify and find ways to solve the problems of restaurant industry to ensure safe food for all, prevention of adulteration, fire safety and others.

Director FBCCI Hafiz Haji Haroon-or-Rashid, Md. Niaz Ali Chishti, Co-Chairman of Standing Committee and members were also present in the meeting.
