Online Desk : Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a fugitive leader of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from Motijeel area in the capital on Sunday night. The arrestee was identified Md Masudur Rahman. He was sentenced to two years in jail in a case filed under the Anti-terrorism Act. Shihab Karim, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Assistant Director of RAB-2, confirmed the matter on Monday.
He said Masudur Rahman is a top leader and a responsible member of Dawati branch of the banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir. He was convicted for two years in cases filed under Mohammadpur and Sher-e-Banga Nagar Police Stations in Dhaka.
The police officials said Masudur involved with Hizb ut-Tahrir while studying. After completing MBA degree, he engaged with real estate business and was promoting radical militant books and encouraging youth to militancy. He was arrested three times in two cases in 2012.
