Online Desk: A team of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence will fly for Turkey tonight to join the search and rescue operations in the aftermath of Monday’s horrific earthquake there. The 12-member expert team, including five fire service officials, will leave Dhaka at 10:00pm today, Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brigadier General Md Moin Uddin said at a press briefing at its headquarters.
All the team members have received training on earthquake rescue operations, the DG said, adding that the team will take some light equipment with them. After the terrible earthquake in Turkey, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instructions to Bangladesh Armed Forces to send a combined aid team there. As part of the decision, the fire service department will conduct its rescue operations in Turkey where a 7.8 magnitude quake claimed nearly 10,000 lives so far.
