The BNP secretary general stated it to reporters after holding a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus on Thursday afternoon. The meeting was held at the chief adviser’s official residence and office, Jamuna. It was attended by BNP Standing Committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed.
Asked whether BNP sought any possible date for holding the general election, Mirza Fakhrul said, “No, we didn’t mention any date. They (interim goverment) will have to propose a date [for holding the election].
Terming the one and a half hours long meeting “fruit”, the BNP secretary general said, “We’re very hopeful about the interim goverment. They will surely be able to bring an stable situation in the country through their sincerity, patriotism and competence. At the same time, they will be able to proceed to holding a general election. They will also make necessary reforms.”
