Online Desk  :  Joint forces have conducted raids to detain those involved in recent worker protests, factory attacks, vandalism and assaults on police officials in Savar and Gazipur. By Thursday night, at least 14 individuals have been held in these operations. Meanwhile, one person was detained in Gazipur for allegedly inciting unrest among garment workers. He was apprehended in the early hours of Friday during a joint forces operation in the Konabari BSCIC Industrial Area of the city.

Sources at Ashulia Police Station said, “As with previous days, worker protests erupted in various areas of Ashulia on Thursday. Many of the protesters were outsiders, terminated workers and workers from closed factories. They staged sit-ins in front of different factories and attacked and vandalised several. Additionally, several members of the law enforcement agencies were injured in the attacks.”

The sources further said, “On Thursday night, joint operations involving the army, RAB, and police were conducted across various areas of Savar to apprehend those responsible for inciting unrest in the industrial zones. A total of 14 suspects were arrested during the operations, though their identities have not yet been confirmed.”

Regarding the situation, Dhaka District Superintendent of Police (SP) Ahmad Muyid said, “Multiple incidents of attacks and vandalism occurred at factories in Ashulia. Several police officers were injured while on duty. Joint operations are underway to bring those involved to justice.” The person arrested in Gazipur has been identified as Md Moniruzzaman, 46, a security guard and resident of the city’s Dewaliyabari area.

According to the police, for several days there have been protests and vandalism at garment factories in areas such as Tongi and Konabari in Gazipur Industrial Zone. Factory owners and organisation leaders suspect that a third party is provoking the unrest. To put an end to the disturbances, joint forces began operations in Gazipur on Monday. As part of this, Md Moniruzzaman, a security guard at the BSCIC Industrial Area, was arrested during a raid last night.

Shah Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station, said, “Moniruzzaman has been working as a security guard in the BSCIC Industrial Area for a long time. We have evidence that he has been inciting workers and creating unrest under someone’s influence. Legal action is underway in this regard.”
