Farhan murder : Complaint filed against Hasina, 33 others at ICT

Online Desk  :   A complaint was filed on Tuesday (Sept 10) with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against Sheikh Hasina and 33 others over killing Farhan Faiyaz during the anti-discrimination student movement in the city’s Mohammadpur area on July 18. Farhan Faiyaz, a 16-year-old student of Dhaka Residential Model College (DRMC), was killed during the clashes among students, police and Awami League activists at Dhanmondi on July 18 last. Farhan’s father Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan filed the complaint accusing 34 people including 76-year-old Hasina and her cohorts with the investigation agency of the ICT. It is the 11th case filed against Sheikh Hasina on charge of genocide with the ICT.

The other accused are Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, former law minister Anisul Huq, former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, AL presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Awami Jubo League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, BCL president Saddam Hossain and its general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan and former DMP joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker.

The accused were charged with genocide and crimes against humanity. The application has been made to take investigative action against the accused according to Section 8 of the International Crimes (tribunals) Act, 1973. Farhan Faiyaz, born on September 12, 2006 was a second-year student in DRMC. He was scheduled to sit for the HSC examinations of 2025 batch of students. Farhan lived with his parents at Dhanmondi. He hailed from village Barapa under Roopganj upazila in Narayanganj district.

His father Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan works at Dishan Progressive Life Insurance Company Ltd, while his mother Farhana Diba is a housewife. Younger sister Farin Islam is a student of Class IX at Wills Little Flower School and College. Farhan was shot multiple times while attending a protest rally of students at about 3:30pm on July 18 at Dhanmondi Road No. 27. After being taken to the City Hospital at Mohammadpur in a critical condition, he succumbed there. There were multiple injuries of rubber bullet on his body.
