Online Desk  :   Doctors at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital have called a strike protesting the attack on a physician by the relatives of a patient who died during treatment. All hospital departments were declared closed but later, a team from the army visited and reopened the emergency department, but other departments remained closed. Sources said that the incident occurred early Wednesday after a young man named Abdul Aziz, a critically ill patient from Nuniachhara in Cox’s Bazar, died while receiving treatment in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The patient’s family alleged that Aziz died immediately after taking a painkiller injection, claiming it was a case of wrongful treatment.

The incident occurred at around 1:30am on Tuesday night (10 September) when Abdul Aziz, a critically ill patient from Nuniachhara in Cox’s Bazar, passed away while receiving treatment in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU). They attacked an on-duty doctor named Kazi Sajeeb inside the hospital. They reportedly tried to drag him out of the hospital. He was later transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Since then, the authorities have suspended all medical services. To protest the incident, doctors, nurses and other hospital staff had announced that they would not return to work unless the attackers were arrested within 24 hours.

Dr GRM Jihadul Islam, resident medical officer (Administration) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said that physicians, nurses, and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement are in discussions to make solution on this. The hospital staff might go on an indefinite strike if their demand was fulfilled.
