Online Desk :   Five people were killed including a woman and a child and another was injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run autorickshaw at Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur district on Saturday night.  The accident took place at around 11:00pm in front of Pran RFL factory in Mulgaon area on the Tongi-Kaliganj-Ghorashal road under Kaliganj municipality in the upazila. Though the identities of the victims couldn’t be known immediately, they all were passengers and driver of the CNG-run autorickshaw.

Locals said the speeding autorickshaw, carrying passengers, collided head-on with the covered van in the area, leaving four people including a woman dead on the spot and two others critically injured. The locals rescued them including the autorickshaw driver from the spot and rushed to a local upazila health complex where physicians declared the child dead upon arrival. Later, the autorickshaw driver was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

On information, police recovered the body and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Md Alauddin, officer-in-charge of  Kaliganj Police Station. Legal actions are underway in this regard, he added.
