Online Desk : Floods in southeastern Bangladesh have resulted in financial losses totaling Tk 14,421 crore (approximately 1.5 billion USD), according to a recent report by the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD). This figure represents 0.29 per cent of the country’s GDP. The report highlighted that the agriculture sector was the hardest hit, with losses amounting to Tk 5,169 crore, while infrastructural damage reached Tk 4,653 crore.

These findings were presented at a press conference held at the CPD office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on Sunday. CPD Executive Director Fahmida Khatun moderated the event, and CPD Research Fellow Muntasir Kamal delivered the keynote presentation.

The private sector bore the brunt of the losses, accounting for 53 per cent ($636 million) of the total damages, while government losses amounted to $452.4 million. The CPD also emphasised the need for changes in cooperation frameworks to mitigate similar losses in the future.
