Online Desk : Md Yamin Akanda, a former member of Bangladesh Chhatra League, has been facing continuous threats to his life and harassment since his voluntary resignation from the political group in 2020. Born on November 3, 1996, in Soto Belghoria, Shibganj, Bogura.Sources reveal that Akand, who left his position due to ethical concerns, has been subjected to threats of violence, resulting in significant emotional distress, including trauma, depression, and anxiety. After his resignation, Akanda’s safety has been at risk, with threats escalating to include life-threatening warnings targeting both him and his family. His experiences have left him suffering from severe psychological conditions. Since 2022, Akanda has been living abroad, first in Malaysia and currently in the United States, where he has been residing for almost a year. Despite being outside Bangladesh, the situation for Akanda has not improved.
On August 16, 2024, after the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Akand faced a new form of political retribution. A false case accusing him of property vandalism was filed against him, further exacerbating his ordeal. Sources close to Akanda claim that the fabricated case is an attempt to silence him and intimidate his family. This sequence of events has raised concerns about the use of political power to harass and silence dissent, as well as the safety of individuals who choose to distance themselves from political organizations. Akanda’s legal representatives are actively challenging the false allegations and are calling for justice in the face of these continuous threats.
As the international community continues to scrutinize the political climate in Bangladesh, Akanda’s situation highlights the potential risks faced by individuals who oppose or withdraw from political affiliations, raising questions about human rights and the rule of law in the country.
