Online Desk : The National Committee for the Protection of Oil, Gas, Minerals, Power, and Ports has called for the cancellation and review of all power and energy agreements made during former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. The committee also demanded accountability and punishment for irregularities in the energy sector.
At a meeting held on Saturday at the Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium, the committee presented its demands, which included halting the Rampal project due to environmental concerns and stopping power imports from the Adani Group. The committee also urged a reduction in domestic oil and gas prices.
Anu Muhammad, member secretary of the committee, emphasised the need for national control over resources, stating, “We must ensure full ownership of our resources. Gas should be extracted according to our capacity.” Energy expert Dr Shamsul Alam added, “With transparency in coal imports alone, the country could save Tk6,000 crore per year, and Tk40,000 crore in the broader power sector.”
