Govt creates employment for 86,277 people in 100 days

Online Desk  :   The interim government has created employment opportunities for 86,277 individuals under various ministries within 100 days. Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, shared this information during a press conference on Sunday (November 17) regarding the progress of the 100-day programmes of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, was also present at the event. The Youth and Sports Secretary said that under the Department of Youth Development, a target has been set to provide institutional and non-institutional training to 264,080 job-seeking youth during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The goal is to engage them in government and private sector jobs as well as self-employment opportunities. Over the past 100 days, 19,452 individuals have been trained, while 52,115 are currently undergoing training.

He further explained that during this period, new employment opportunities were created across various ministries and divisions, including the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the ICT Division, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. A total of 86,277 jobs were created under both revenue and project categories. Of these, 2,468 positions were filled under revenue jobs, while 83,809 individuals were employed through project-based initiatives, including self-employment and entrepreneurship programs.

The Secretary also mentioned that the government has set a target of creating 500,000 jobs over the next two years. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi further stated that an initiative has been undertaken to train 2,100 individuals in seven batches through traffic management and social awareness training courses. Of these, 710 people have already completed the training. Among the trainees, 231 have been appointed as assistants to Traffic Police, while the recruitment process for the remaining trainees is ongoing.
