Online Desk : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said they will form a national government with the partners of movement if their party is voted to power in the next general election. “If voted to power, we will not govern the country alone. So, where is the problem? Where is the suspicion? Instead, people have started to becoming suspicious about you (interim government),” he said while speaking at a discussion organized by Jatiyatabadi Peshajibi Parishad at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday. Mirza Fakhrul said those who are in the interim government are making various confusing remarks on many issues, including election. “Give focus on a single point. Focus is to move toward election reorganizing the Election Commission, reshaping the administration and rearranging the judiciary. The rest of the work will be carried on by those who will come to power through election.”
The BNP Secretary General said: “You (interim government) always say that political parties seek election repeatedly. We call for holding an election for the greater interest of the nation, not for the interest of BNP. We have given a set of reform proposals. Please look into the proposals. A total of 62 political parties together made the proposals for the sake of the country’s overall stability,” he said. Pointing to the interim government, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We all must have to admit one thing. None of them (interim government) has no political experiences. It has different additional and subtraction, it has separate equations. Only politicians understand it. Because of it, we politicians have been insisting on holding election sooner rather than later. What is the reason behind it? It is not for BNP to go to power. We have been saying that the existing problems will increase manifold unless election is held as early as possible.”
Citing several repressive and oppressive acts of the just ousted Awami League government, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman indulged in fascism during his rule. The countrymen were fed up with the authoritarian regime. At one stage, some misguided army official assassinated him.” Famine took place during the Awami League rule while Ziaur Rahman brought the situation under control after taking charge of the country, he said. Due to his prudent politics, the United Nations made him (Ziaur Rahman) a middleman to stop the Iran-Iraq war, said Mirza Fakhrul.
