Online Desk : Bangladesh women’s cricket team secured a historic series victory over Ireland with a commanding five-wicket win in second WODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday. The victory gives the Tigresses an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing 194 for victory, the hosts achieved their highest-ever successful run chase in WODIs, surpassing their previous best of 167 against Pakistan in November 2023. Bangladesh had a shaky start, losing opener Murshida Khatun for just six in the fifth over. However, the partnership between Fargana and Sharmin ensured stability. Despite a few quick wickets, Joty and Shorna’s aggressive 53-run stand off 40 balls sealed the game comfortably.
For Bangladesh, Fargana Hoque anchored the chase with a composed 50 off 89 balls while Sharmin Akhter contributed 43 runs, partnering with Fargana for a crucial 85-run second-wicket stand. Nigar Sultana Joty played a captain’s knock of 40 off 39 balls, stabilizing the innings after a mid-innings wobble. Shorna Akter remained unbeaten with 25 runs to guide Bangladesh over the line in 43.5 overs. After winning the toss, Ireland posted 193-6 in 50 overs, thanks to Amy Hunter’s solid 68. However, the total proved insufficient against a determined Bangladesh side. Sultana Khatun was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, claiming two wickets. Earlier, Bangladesh dominated the first ODI with a record 154-run victory. The Tigresses will now look to complete a clean sweep in the final match of the series.
