Protests erupt at different universities against attack on Agartala mission

Online Desk  :   Students of Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University and Islamic University held protest prepossessions at their respective universities on Monday night against attack on Bangladesh’s assistant high commission in India’s Agartala. Dhaka University : The students gathered at Raju Memorial Sculpture at about 9PM and brought out a protest procession from there. Later, after parading different roads of the campus, they held a rally at the Raju Memorial Sculpture. Residential students also joined. They chanted slogans like ‘two zero two four, aggression no more’, ‘Indian lackeys, beware!,’ ‘Why attack on Agartala, Delhi must answer’. Students Against Discrimination held a rally at the same spot at 10PM. Arif Sohel, the member secretary of the platform, said people of Bangladesh do not have any enmity with the people of India. Bangladeshis are peace loving but the Indian government is trying to exert its imperialist policies on Bangladesh.

Jahangirnagar University : The agitating students of the university held a torchlight procession at campus to protest the vandalism and flag torn off the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala, India by members of the Hindu nationals. Students under the joint banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Mass Uprising Protection Movement, Jahangirnar Reform Movement, Anti-Hegemony Forum, and Revolutionary Cultural Forum started a torchlight procession at 9PM from the university’s Battala and circled various roads of the campus. More than 500 students participated in the protest procession. At the end of the procession, speakers said, “The attack on our embassy in India means an attack on the sovereignty of our country. As an independent country, we will not accept it. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi must apologize for this incident.”

Islamic University : A protest procession and rally were held at IU in Kushtia. The procession, organized by the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’, started from Zia Mor around 10PM on Monday. The procession marched around various roads on campus. After the procession, a protest rally was held in front of the main gate of the university.  IU ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’ coordinator SM Sweet, co-coordinators Naheed Hasan, Hasanul Bannah Wali, Tanvir Mandal, other co-coordinators and general students were present at the event.

Rajshahi University : The RU students held a rally at the entrance gate of the university, blocking Dhaka-Rajshahi highway at 1PM. Moshiur Rahma, a student of Department of International Relations, said, “We strongly condemn the attack on the Bangladesh Embassy by Indian extremist terrorists. They are in clear violation of the Geneva Convention.
